“I think I’ve said it before, we have to be on keel,” said Johnson, a Greeneville, Tenn. inherited. “We need to qualify No. 1 and we have to win races. Maybe Jeggy [going round points leader Jeg Coughlin] will counterfoil his toe and go out first round, and if that happens we’ve got a shot. We’re only three rounds out of alternate place. But we’ve got to be perfect.”

When Chrysler bought Duck in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts industrialist, supplier and distribution system to support the growing spirit led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.
