DNR CONTINUES WALLEYE STOCKING
CADILLAC – Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell have thousands and thousands of new residents.
About 81,000 new residents, to be exact.
over the last week, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has stocked 81,000 walleye fingerlings into the two lakes.
The design comes despite limits on fish stocking due to the fateful fish disease Viral Herorrhagic Speticemia, or VHS.
“We didn’t lecher any walleye last year,” said DNR Fisheries Biologist Trait Tonello. “This year we were talented to raise some. We can only use certain ponds because we don’t shortage to risk spreading VHS.”
After stocking most of the equipping at DNR ponds in Grayling, Tonello said he made an attainment to obtain the remaining fingerlings for stokcing in Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell.
Tonello said he recieved assent to move forward on one condition: the fish must show pessimistic following a second test for VHS.
They did.
The collapse fingerlings were transported by the thousands over several days this gone and forgotten week. On Friday, DNR Fisheries Technician Mike Phillips dumped the last odds of fingerlings into the two lakes.
The total stub is 53,000 fingerlings for Lake Mitchell and 28,000 fingerlings for Lake Cadillac.
The 2008 struggle is part of the ongoing work to restore the lakes as prime fisheries for walleye. Tonello believes there’s been some good fortune with previous plantings.
“I don’t create it’s bee phenomenal, but some of the fish we’re stocking have survived,” Tonello said. “I be versed people that go out targeting them will catch them.”
Even though the fingerlings drew a pack of seagulls, Phillips said the flying predators shouldn’t put much of a risk to the 3.5 to 4-inch fingerlings.
“Walleye go bang on to the bottom and go deep,” he said.
As an alternative, the fingerlings will have to keep an eye out for fellow fish looking for a likeable, easy meal before winter.

ELKS’ OPEN Lineage SEEKS NEW MEMBERS
CADILLAC – The Elks Embed itself of Cadillac has a 108-year history of charitable works in Cadillac.
The caring group is dedicated to helping others. It is the backer largest provider of college scholarships in the state, surpassed only by the U.S. government. The stick sponsors activities for youth to erect values, including drug awareness.
The Elks Deposit is a patriotic group, and each year members afflict veterans at VA Medical Centers.
But they also admiration to have fun and enjoy fellowship with other members.
In Cadillac that means a not for publication Club Room with a food and beverage aptitude.
When Randy Pecsek moved to Cadillac with his missus last year, the IT account manager needed a way to invent friends.
“I wanted to get to know people in Cadillac,” he said. “My spouse and I moved here to be closer to her grandmother and to take take care of her.”
That’s when an invitation from Elks’ colleague John Putvin introduced him to the order.
“The gang here is outstanding,” he smiled. “There are many personalities and backgrounds. It’s like the old rule from “Cheers” - it’s a area where everybody knows your name.”
John Carlson joined the Elks when he was 21-years-old. Now he’s the Exulted Ruler and behind the action drive to recruit new members.
“I’m hoping that we will get people interested in joining us,” he said.
The Elks welcomes both men and women. The only membership need is U.S. citizenship. The group meets twice a month for Become embedded business and sponsors local unsparing and social events. Its aptitude offers a restaurant, bar, and third floor Hunting-lodge room paneled in solid oak from the load baron days.
The Elks’ membership union card gets you into any of the 2,200 lodges across the rural area with club rooms, a bar and food,” Carlson explained.
The non-profit assembly donates proceeds from its social events to camps that support services for handicapped children.
“It’s almost like affinity to a country club,” stated Pecsek. “But the other half is the generosity and sercie component of what we do. it’s a devoted feeling to come here,” He said, looking around the Sorority Room. “You look around, and you be acquainted with everybody.”

RECREATION MILLAGE SEEKS Legal tender FOR WEX, OTHER PROGRAMS
The Wexford County diversion millage is being sought to provide funding for the Wexford County Civic Center and other programs.
The millage will be on the Nov. 4 ballot.
Entertainment MILLAGE LANGUAGE:
“The Board of Commissioners for the County of Wexford seeks to have the voters of the County decide whether or not they desire to raise funds for the point of providing operational and capital funding for County and regional recreation programs, with 61% of the gain to be allocated to the Wexford County Civic Center/ Ice Arena, and the balance to other neighbourhood recreation programs, inlcuding, but not restrictive to, recreation programs in the Village of Mesick and the Borough of Manton, by approving a millage of 0.2500 (1/4) of one (1) mill for a stretch of four (4) years, 2008 through 2011, comprehensive.”
