Burrton GPS Activity
On Friday, Oct. 10, Burrton 3rd and 5th qualify students participated in a GPS scavenger explore activity. Here's an overview of the activity:

Sept. 23 - Bentley, Tammy, Becky, Greg, and Emily met to influence the purpose and logistics of the activity. Both teachers stony to do a scavenger hunt where students would ruffle clues: 3rd grade - life cycles; 5th class - explorers. The class would be split into teams and each duo would have a handheld GPS that would "lead" them to each clue.
Bentley, Tammy, Emily, and Greg took a walking outing of Burrton, decided where they wanted to flail the clues, and set waypoints on a GPS.
Between Sept. 23 and Oct. 10:
Bentley second-hand computer software to distribute the waypoints to 5 GPS units (one per work together). He also changed the routes so that each team would find the clues in a singular order.
Emily, Tammy, and Greg printed the clues and put them into envelopes that were color-coded and labeled for each side.
On Oct. 10:
12:00 - Bentley and Tammy hid the clues.
12:30 - 3rd graders are given instructions and about their "hunt".
1:15 - teams assemble back at their startin
g point up, open their clues, and attempt to work their challenge.
2:00 - The process is repeated with 5th standing students.
Despite being tired and dry, everyone agreed it was a great learning occurrence for the students - and for the adults!
